Top Baby Names for Boys and Girls in 2007


The results are in! The United States Social Security Administration has recently published the results of the most popular baby names in 2007. The names tend to differ slightly depending on where in the United States you are, but the top ten baby names for both boys and girls are found all over the United States. Here are the top ten baby names for boys: 1. Jacob2. Michael3. Ethan4. Joshua5. Daniel6. Christopher7. Anthony8. William 9. Matthew 10. Andrew While there seems to be an increase in non-traditional names, especially among celebrities, it is clear that the most popular baby names are still the traditional names we are used to. Ready for the girls? Here are the top ten baby names for girls: 1. Emily2. Isabella3. Emma4. Ava5. Madison6. Sophia7. Olivia8. Abigail9. Hannah10. Elizabeth Elizabeth is enjoying a return the top ten this year after falling of the list for the past two years. Addison, falling slightly shy of the top ten list, comes in at number 11, no doubt riding the wave of the popular Addison Shepherd on Grey's Anatomy. Names seem to follow our pop culture as well. For instance, the character Austin on Days of our Lives no doubt led to an increase in the name Austin for boys. The name hit the top ten list for quite some time, though has now fallen to the number 48th spot.

Interestingly, Emily and Jacob have topped the lists for years. Emily has been number one on the list since 1996 and Jacob since 1999. They seem to be the name to beat! Of course, if you don't want to name your child one of the most popular baby names you can always take some clues from the celebrities. For instance, John Travolta and Kelly Preston named one of their children Jet. Certainly after Travolta's love of aircraft? We also have Poet, Soliel Moon Frye's daughter's, and Coco, David Arquette and Courtney Cox's adorable little girl, in the category of unique baby names. Naming your child can come from personal experience, family, culture, religion, or any other source you come across. Some people even want to avoid naming their baby from the top ten baby name list. There is no limit to the number of names out there and the number of choices of names for your new baby.
